The statue of Jesus Christ, which is stored in one of the churches in Mexico, plagued scientists, who decided to examine it with X-rays. The figure of the Suffering Christ with bloody wounds seems a little scary. The researchers were more frightened when they discovered that it has human teeth.
According to the BBC, the experts who keep this monument of XVIII century, found in the mouth of the statue eight teeth, which belonged to an adult. The National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico has confirmed the discovery.
„Probably the teeth were donated by someone in gratitude,“ – says the restorer Fanny Unikel. According to her, in other parts of Mexico are statues of saints with wigs of human hair. Some parishioners donate their hair for these purposes in the same way as others donate money or clothes. But the teeth and claws of the statues are usually made of bones and horns of animals. „This is the first time of a sculpture with human teeth,“ – said the restorer.
According to her, there is nothing surprising in this. „This statue was made very realistic, so if the author was able to obtain human teeth, it is not surprising that he has used them“ – said the expert.
By X-rays are seen even the roots of the teeth, so there is no doubt that they are real. At the same time, they are completely preserved. It is possible that the teeth belonged to a man who was considered a saint.
