Thousands of homes in different parts of Finland remained without electricity today because of severe storms accompanied by hurricane winds, lightning strikes and trees fallen over wires, said TV „Yule“.
In the early afternoon there is no light in about 12000 homes in the eastern part of the country, in Lapland – 4000 homes. According to the newspaper „Iltalehti“ there remained without electricity the whole city of Rovaniemi. Less affected are central and western Finland. Also today in Finland has been improved the record for the number of fallen lightnings in one day.
The experts have calculated that in the country have fallen more than 14000 lightnings. The previous record was in mid July, when the number of lightning was 13800.
