The space telescope „Hubble“ presented pictures of two colliding galaxies. The telescope has filmed two massive spiral galaxies, which due to gravity are getting near to each other and change their structure. The bjects are called 2MASX J06094582-2140234.
Such an event could result in a fusion of star systems and the formation of a galaxy, or in two systems which passing through each other, cross. In the last case, however, the spiral arms have been deformed.
Our galaxy – the Milky Way is expecting the same: it will merge with its neighbour Andromeda. This process will last several hundred million years.
However, scientists believe that the discovered pair 2MASX J06094582-2140234, unlike the Milky Way and Andromeda, after their interaction will not form a galaxy, but will pass each other.
The telescope „Hubble“ has taken the picture of 2MASX J06094582-2140234 in the local universe (within a billion light-years from the Sun) with NICMOS – camera spectroscopy.
