One of the oldest editions of the European Communists – the Italian newspaper Unita – announced its closure. The newspaper stopped for financial reasons.
„We are at the end. After three months of fighting, they managed to kill Unita. The shareholders did not reach to an agreement how to save the newspaper. Today is a sad day for the democracy“ – said the website of Unita. Many attempts have been made to rescue the newspaper and even by the political opponents of the Communists. For example, the associate of Silvio Berlusconi, representing the center for right policy Daniela Santanke announced her readiness to invest the necessary funds in the newpaper, but from the editorial office refused financial support from political opponents.
The newspaper was founded in 1924 by the founder of the Communist Party of Italy, Antonio Gramsci.
