A TV presenter of the news channel Al Ekhbariya went on air with an uncovered head, provoking an unprecedented scandal in Saudi Arabia, says GulfNews.
In the kingdom this is the first time the TV presenter allows herself taking such freedoms. After that the channel was inundated with complaints from outraged viewers. In the social networks, users also criticized the TV presenter, arguing that she „violated the rules of Sharia.“
„It was a reporter who read the news from a studio in the UK“ – said a spokesman for the Saudi broadcaster Saleh al-Mugalif, commenting on the incident in Al Ekhbariya. „We will not tolerate any violations of our values,“ – he added.
In Saudi Arabia women have a strict dress code – in society they must be in clothes that hide the figure, and with a hijab on her head.
In the kingdom the women are forbidden to drive a car. And those who are found guilty of blasphemy, apostasy, witchcraft or adultery can be beaten with whips, closed in jail or even beheaded. The police morale department keeps an eye on the compliance with the rules of conduct in public.
